According
to the people who seem to decide what is in and out it is claimed
that 2013 will be the year that rock music makes a comeback.
If this
is the case then Mothertone from Edinburgh could well be looking to
position themselves in the right place at the right time.
With bass
lines that could have come out of the Iron Maiden school of rock
handbook, some nifty guitar interplay that sounds like west coast
punks taking on their European thrash cousins, and an accessible
vocal approach that is more a turn on than a turn off they have shown
on their two track debut that they are happy to be seen as the band
who will kick some doors open.
While
some bands can never seem to find common ground for their influences
to take root in, the opposite is happening here as they appear to
have managed to dip into multiple genres and comfortably fitted them
together to create a sound that wears its influences on its sleeve
without it overtly leaning towards one or another.
If they
can carry that over the length of an album then I fully expect that
they will do well.
Very
well.
Especially
on mainland Europe as they love their rock.
